Elliston, on the coast of the beautiful Bonavista Peninsula, is known for two great attractions: the Elliston Puffin Festival, and the Root Cellar Capital of the World.
The Puffin Festival takes place on or near the third weekend in July and has been listed as one of the top ten “go and see” events in Newfoundland and Labrador. The eight-day event showcases these beautiful birds but is also a celebration of local culture, cuisine, and tradition, with up to 60 hours of live music and song from the region.
Homemade cooking featuring potluck and fish dishes are served. Local vegetables, stored for a nine-month period in the root cellars of Elliston, make their way to the kitchen table for a two-day “Jiggs dinner,” a vegetable dinner served with salt beef and peas pudding.
Your drive time from the Clarenville Inn to Elliston is 90 minutes.
